What is an actuator
Actuator is usually translated as an actuator, an executor, or an executing mechanism. It is a mechanical device that can convert energy into motion, such as motors, pneumatic cylinders, hydraulic cylinders, etc. In the automatic control systems of industrial pipelines, the actuator usually refers to the executor connected to the valve to drive the opening and closing of the valve. Common valve actuators include electric actuators, pneumatic actuators, and hydraulic actuators. Electric actuators use motors to drive gears or lead screws to achieve position control. Pneumatic and hydraulic actuators use the energy of air pressure or hydraulic pressure to push pistons or diaphragms to drive valve movement.
Applications of actuator valves
1. Flow and pressure control systems in the petrochemical industry
Actuator valves can precisely adjust the flow rate of petroleum, natural gas or other fluids in the pipeline to achieve accurate pressure control.
2. Overpressure protection of water and steam pipelines in power plants
In the water and steam supply pipeline network, actuator valves play a critical role in isolating pipelines and releasing steam, which can effectively prevent overpressure situations.
3. Water level or flow rate adjustment in water supply and drainage systems
Between the various process units in the water treatment process, actuator valves supply or discharge water on demand to ensure water balance and ensure normal and stable operation of the process.
4. Process control in other automatic control systems
Actuators can work with sensors and control system signals to precisely adjust valve opening to achieve process control of various process parameters such as temperature, pressure, liquid level, etc.
